Mental Health, Basic Needs & Student Wellbeing

Heron’s Nest

The mission of the Heron’s Nest is to provide a safe space for students to nourish both body and soul. The Heron’s Nest is in the Student Success Center and is where you will find Julie Dockery, GBCC’s Student Support Coordinator, as well as the GBCC Food Pantry. Julie provides support to students who may need resources for mental health, housing, health insurance and other non-academic related issues. The Food Pantry is available to all students and is open when the building is open.

Please contact Julie Dockery, [email protected] for more information regarding the Heron’s Nest, the Food Pantry and non-academic support.

BetterMynd

GBCC has partnered with BetterMynd, an online therapy platform, to offer current students access to FREE teletherapy sessions. Through BetterMynd, students receive three 50-minute teletherapy sessions.

It only takes 5 minutes to register, select a counselor and book your first session. Register at BetterMynd.

Nothing matters more for your well-being and academic success than your mental health.

BetterMynd offers 1-1 counseling via Zoom from a diverse suite of counselors.

Common reasons for getting mental health support include but not limited to:

  • Feeling consistently low or sad
  • Persistent anxiety or depression
  • Loss of a loved one
  • Current or past experiences of trauma or abuse
  • Academic pressures and performance
  • Challenges with family members or at home

Loaner Laptops

If a student is in need of a laptop, GBCC has a limited number of laptops available for loan. Laptops may be borrowed on a semester basis to registered students.

Please contact Brittanie Mulkigian, [email protected] for more information.

Campus Cupboard

Located within the Fitness Center, our Campus Cupboard is the on-site student food cupboard that provides healthy snacks and personal hygiene items for those students while on campus. The mission of the Campus Cupboard is to ‘Feed Our Students Success’ while you are on campus.

Please contact Brittanie Mulkigian at [email protected] for information about additional support.
