Step 3 – Submit your documents
Submit any of the below listed documents that apply to you to the School Certifying Official (SCO) in the Registrar’s Office in Room 206:
- Certificate of Eligibility (COE)
- Scholarship or Kicker Contract Information
- Notice of Benefit Eligibility (NOBE) from your Unit Commander if you are in the National Guard (Army or Air Force)
Step 4 – Advising and Registration
- Upon acceptance to a degree or certificate program, schedule an appointment with the Advising and Transfer Center.
- Register for classes.
Step 5 – Complete Certification Request Form
Complete a VA Certification Request Form. This form prompts the SCO to certify your enrollment to VA.
Step 6 – Verify
Students utilizing Chapter 33 Post 9/11 GI Bill or Chapter 1606 Montgomery GI Bill need to verify their enrollment monthly to VA. It only takes a couple of minutes to complete. If you don’t follow this procedure, you will not receive your monthly payment. Please be aware that we are required by law to notify the VA whenever a change in enrollment affects your enrollment status. This will most likely affect your VA payments.
- Chapter 33 Post 9/11 GI Bill – Please follow the steps at the following link https://www.va.gov/education/verify-school-enrollment/#for-post-911-gi-bill-benefits
- Chapter 1606 Montgomery GI Bill – You can complete a Web-Automated Verification of Enrollment (WAVE) online at the end of each month or contact the VA office at 877-823-2378.
Step 7 – Apply for Financial Aid
You may qualify for additional federal financial aid in addition to VA Education Benefits. Click here to apply for Financial Aid: FAFSA website.
IMPORTANT: Dropping classes while using military education benefits may result in a debt with the VA and Great Bay. The VA will notify GBCC and you, via mail and/or email, the amount of tuition and fees that will be required for GBCC to return to the VA. You will then be responsible for reimbursing GBCC for these returned funds.
You may also incur debt for the monies provided to you for the book stipend and BAH. The VA will also notify you if that has happened because of dropping classes. Great Bay will not be informed of any debt incurred for book stipend or the BAH (that information is only provided to the student). These funds will be required to be paid to the VA (not GBCC).
